Onlinejobs.Ph Review: How I Earned My First $5,000 Writing Online?

Onlinejobs PH Review - How I Made My First $5,000 Writing Online?

This is a comprehensive Onlinejobs.Ph review. You’re going to learn how I started, got verified, and earned my first $5,000 writing online.

You may have lost your job. As much as you want to search for another one, the government implements its strictest rules to control the spread of the virus.

You’re not allowed to go out. You’re not allowed to freely roam around the city like before. You’re restrained to exercise your capability to make an income, which eventually affected your family income.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a stable internet connection and a laptop, it’s time to search for online jobs.

Turn your free time into profits because there’s no better way than making money online using your skills. Your writing skills.

As a Filipino, your work ethic is incredible enough to impress the world. You work harder than anybody else. You’re never afraid to try as long as you can to please someone and make money.

Without the stellar profile, I couldn’t even imagine how possible it is to earn that money. I wouldn’t have continued my journey as an online writer. Well, at the time, I still have the option to go back to my boring teaching job.

That character, though sometimes seen as a weakness, it’s your strength. It’s a strength that’s unique for Pinoys. Hence, we can survive anything even during the most difficult times—the widespread economic collapse.

That’s the same reason for me to share my journey from my first income as a writer until when I made my first $5,000 writing online.

Many options are available out there. But today, we’re going to focus on how I used Onlinejobs.ph to meet amazing people and to work with them and learn many things and earn an income by doing something I love—while staying at home.

Are you ready? Let’s get started. Shall we?

What is Onlinejobs.Ph?

Onlinejobs.ph is one of the popular marketplaces where Western businesses can outsource Filipino workers and hire them for a specific job—the best one that’s fit for the job. It’s kind of similar to Upwork except for the “milestone payment” system.

For Filipino workers, it’s an online alternative for job search wherein they don’t have to go through the traditional hiring process. Rather, the applicant applies for the job and gets interviewed and employed. Simple.

How does Onlinejobs.Ph work?

As I mentioned earlier, it is similar to Upwork except for having no option for milestone payments. In a nutshell, this is how the process looks like:

  1. Type in the keyword based on the job you’re looking for.
  2. Click on the job you’re interested in.
  3. Apply with your impressive profile, resume (if applicable), and application letter.

Upwork provides options for freelancers to receive payments for every milestone. With Onlinejobs.ph, you’re often paid per month or depending on your agreement with the employer.

When I started, I didn’t get anything from the beginning. So, it felt like I was working for nothing. Oftentimes, those who worked with me tend to try me for a month.

Just so you know, there are employers who accept applicants with 1 to 3 months probation. That means, it takes time for them to decide to have you as a regular employee based on their observations to your work performance, though you’re already accepted.

So, you’ve got to do good. You’ve got to be the best.

When I started, I didn’t get anything from the beginning. So, it felt like I was working for nothing. Oftentimes, those who worked with me tend to try me for a month.

What happens is you won’t get that much until you work for around 3 months for the company or a private individual you work with.

In other cases, they might pay 50% of what you’re asking for. The remaining 50% is paid at the end of the project. However, this only occurs if you opted for any freelance jobs or any project under the category “Any”.

Nonetheless, it’s easy to search for various job offers through Onlinejobs.ph. All you have to do is to search for the keyword, for instance, you want a writing job, type in “writing”.

Then, you see the list of job offers related to the keyword you search for. Simply click on the job you’re interested in and apply for free.

You don’t have to pay for anything. Just prepare your profile, an uploaded resume with a shareable link, and a sincere application letter. That’s it.

This is what you see when you land on Onlinejobs.ph home page.

Is Onlinejobs.ph Legit?

Besides Upwork and Fiverr, Onlinejobs.ph is the first thing that comes to mind, especially when hiring Filipino virtual assistants and workers.

In fact, it’s one of the biggest databases for Western business owners to count on for recruiting Filipino online workers.

My favorable experience with Onlinejobs.ph is a testament to its legitimacy. There’s no question about that. Besides, it’s been my go-to place for seeking new writing opportunities for 6 years now.

How to establish a stellar Onlinejobs.Ph profile?

First of all, what makes a stellar Onlinejobs.ph profile and how does it affect your chance of getting a job online?

To answer those questions, let’s dive into your profile and know its anatomy.

When you visit your profile, you’ll notice the following parts:

  • Your profile photo
  • Verified account
  • Expected Salary
  • Education
  • Experience
  • Basic Information
  • Skills Summary
  • Worker Skills

Let’s discuss each part to explain everything to you as clearly as possible.

Profile Photo

When you apply for a job, do you use a wacky photo you took at your best friend’s bachelor’s party? No, right?

The same principle applies when uploading your profile photo. It must look professional or at least decent. The more professional you look, the better the chances of getting hired and making money while working at home.

Do you get my point?

Verified Account

This is a big plus. More employers trust those job seekers with a verified account.

That means you undergo certain verification measures for Onlinejobs.ph staff to review. The process itself takes around a few weeks to a month before you get verified.

What would they require from you?

  • Phone number – Make sure your phone number registered on Onlinejobs.ph matches the one you’re using for work.
  • Utility monthly bills – Scan your latest monthly billing with your name and address on it. The scanned document will then serve as your proof of address.
  • Government-issued ID – You have to submit a scanned copy of the front page and back page of your government-issued ID. In addition to the scanned ID, you already have to take a photo of yourself holding the same ID you submitted for verification.

Important Note:

A selfie with the same government-issued ID submitted is a new rule. In my case, I only submitted my ID back in 2014. At the time, it wasn’t required until 2020. So, I submitted a follow-up selfie in 2020 to comply with their new regulation.

It’s a simple process but it takes a bit more time. But that doesn’t mean you can’t start searching for a job. However, your ID proof will only be 45 as the minimum ID proof issued to your account. What that means is you can only apply for jobs with 45 ID proof and below.

As soon as Onlinejobs.ph verifies your account, you’ll immediately receive a 99 ID proof. Hence, you’ll have more chances to apply to almost all job listings.

By the way, if you ask me, how Onlinejobs.ph measures your ID proof, that’s a mystery. Honestly, I have no idea how they evaluate this but as soon as you comply with their requirements, they have qualms on issuing the 99 ID proof.

Then, why do you care about the 99 ID proof?

Well, most of the jobs require job seekers with 99 ID proof. From an employer’s perspective, you’re more trustworthy and worth hiring.

However, having this ID proof isn’t enough to keep you working for the job. You have to prove it with your results, too.

Onlinejobs PH Review Expected Salary min uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Expected Salary

If you hover the mouse on the amount, you see a pen sign. When you click on it, you see a “Select desired salary” with a USD equivalent. Select the amount you think is the right pay for you.

For example, my regular income rate as a writer was around $250. When I applied, I set it up with an increased rate to $500, which was fair for me at the time.

The best thing you can do to start is to determine your average income per month based on your previous work.

To give you another trick, DDIY.co listed the average charge for hiring Filipino virtual assistants:

  • General Administrative VA – $300/month
  • Programmers – $550 to $1,300/month
  • Designers – $400 to $1,100/month
  • SEO Specialists – $400 to $1,100/month
  • Social Media Experts – $400 to $1,100/month

For content writing, recruiters may be willing to pay around $250 to $1,000/month depending on skills and work experience.

Though these are the average rates, you can negotiate with your recruiter how much you would like to get paid.

Another thing you have to consider negotiating is the “13th-month pay” —an annual bonus known to Filipino workers payable in December—if they are willing to give it to you or not.

Onlinejobs PH Review Working Hours min uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Below is the number of hours you plan to work if ever someone wants to hire you. Similar to the amount, you hover the mouse and click with the desired working hours per week. Once finished, you see how much they would pay per hour.

I chose 30+ hours per week when I applied for a writing job with a $500 expected salary. That means I get paid $5.96/hr.

Important Note:

Discuss with your employer whether you choose the time when to work and how long you would work per day. There are times when they actually expect you to show up every day and deliver outputs.

When choosing the number of hours, make sure you can really work in the given time. Don’t choose 30+ hours if your schedule doesn’t allow. Otherwise, your ID proof will be affected once you fail to deliver what you promise.

Onlinejobs PH Review Education min uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Education

What is your highest educational attainment? Do you have a bachelor’s degree or do you pursue a postgraduate study? Share it on your profile. Let your potential employers know.

Experience

It doesn’t have to be lengthy. Write a summary of your working experience in a sentence or two. Keep it short but sweet. Brevity is key to a strong job seeker profile.

Take mine as an example:

6 years of professional writing experience i.e. content writing, blogging, guest blogging, ghostwriting, freelance writing, and book writing.

Onlinejobs PH Review Basic Information uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Basic Information

Your basic information encompasses your age, gender, address (not shown publicly), website (if you have), and test results.

Among these, certainly, having a website and the tests increase your chance of getting hired. Especially if you’re a writer.

That’s why if you plan to make money online as a writer, it’s encouraged to build your self-hosted website to showcase your writing prowess.

How about the tests taken? This includes the results you got from the IQ test, the DISC test, and the English test.

The IQ test, as the name implies, measures how much you know about life in terms of common sense because it doesn’t measure what you know academically.

The DISC test, on the other hand, measures your personality based on the DISC types, namely: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Compliance (C). You can find out more about this test here.

Why do you need to take these tests?

These tests are great for your employers to know you based on the results you get. For instance, I got a 125 IQ score. For them, they could assume that I’m knowledgeable enough to understand the work.

Aside from my intellect, it’s also reasonable to determine your personality— whether yours and your employer match.

According to research published in 2017, when an employee works for a job that fits his personality will likely make more money than those who don’t. Hence, the term “successful personality” is coined.

For my DISC test results, I got:

  • Dominance – 43
  • Influence – 10
  • Steadiness – 21
  • Compliance – 26

Based on these numbers where dominance has the highest score, it means I am mostly motivated by new challenges and setting new goals to achieve desirable results.

According to DiscInsights, individuals with this score enjoy power and authority with an impeccable ability to take risks for the sake of achieving the goal.

Though my potential employer is yet to interview me, he already has an idea of what kind of person he’s about to hire. If he thinks my personality is attractive to leverage his business, he’ll be more likely to hire me.

The good thing about these tests is it saves them time from their recruitment process. They could identify who is fit for their businesses and not.

Hence, it’s a great thing not to ignore these requirements. Besides, Onlinejobs.ph only wants the best for you, right?

Onlinejobs PH Review Skill Summary uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Skill Summary

If you take a look at the experience section, you only stated a 1-sentence summary of your professional background.

In Skill Summary, you can elaborate on that experience but not too much. Again, it’s about brevity.

Here’s mine:

Experience: 6 years of professional writing experience i.e. content writing, blogging, guest blogging, ghostwriting, freelance writing, and book writing.

Skill Summary: I’m a writer and blogger with 6 years of professional writing experience for blogs, websites, and digital platforms, with a focus on gaming, lifestyle, blog monetization, entertainment, and writing.

I specialize in content writing for blog posts, guest post contributions in English.

My work has been featured on Lifehack, Thrive Global, and other authority websites.

Are you getting my point so far?

Always remember, be a seducer. Don’t talk too much. Leave some parts of yourself a mystery as an element of surprise for your employer. That’s based on my experience.

An entrepreneur hired me for a full-time content writing job in 2018 and was initially impressed by my writing skills. He thought that was it.

I was tasked to write a post and have it drafted on his site. At the time, I didn’t have the right to publish the post on my own.

When we kept rolling, he’s amazed that I provided him with not only good content, but he also earned $10,000 from a single post. It was also the time he allowed me to take full control of the content as his site traffic increases.

The point is, though your job requires specific skills, try to give more. But before you do, leave those extra high-income skills a mystery. Wait for the right time until you exercise that prowess. They’ll be surprised—making you irresistible and “hard to let go”.

Are you getting me?

Onlinejobs PH Review Worker Skills uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

Worker Skills

This is quite a lengthy section. Your worker skills encompass the necessary skills that could be attractive to your employers, namely:

  • Top skills
  • Office & Admin (Virtual Assistant)
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Writing
  • Marketing & Sales
  • Advertising
  • Web development
  • Webmaster
  • Graphics & Multimedia
  • Finance & Management
  • Customer service & Admin support

At this point, you have to rate yourself according to the skills Onlinejobs.ph set for you. Make sure you have to be completely honest with your rates. Otherwise, it affects your standing as a job seeker.

What are the 3 categories of employment?

Onlinejobs.ph has 3 categories of employment:

  • Full-time
  • Freelance
  • Any

Full-time

This is where employers expect you to sign a contract with agreed terms. Hence, you’ll work regularly, especially weekdays, with per day deliverables.

Part-time

Like any part-time job, you get to work only if you signed an agreement with an employer. The difference between a full-time and a part-time job is the number of hours you’re willing to work for a week.

Freelance

When an employee doesn’t tie you with a contract, it’s a freelance job. That’s the difference. You work on the project and deliver what’s asked and you’re paid. End of work. You get to work on the next one without strings attached.

For me, as a writer, freelance writing is one of the favorite options out there. You make money online writing for other people’s businesses, at the same time, you explore and learn new things.

In fact, I started as a freelance writer and a ghostwriter for years before I landed on a full-time content writing job.

Unlike the full-time and part-time employment types, it doesn’t require you to follow strict rules. It’s because you create the rules. You design your working hours. Hence, you’re more flexible without compromising your goal.

If you want to become a freelance writer, especially if you’re a non-native English speaker, I recommend you read this post.

Onlinejobs PH Review How it Works uploaded by Mecyll Gaspary on August 30, 2020.

How to search for writing jobs on Onlinejobs.ph?

Onlinejobs.ph makes it easier for you to find a writing job that suits your personality and your writing prowess.

Not only does it provide more opportunities to make money online as a writer, but it also opens new adventures to explore your potential and learn new skills.

What makes this platform amazing is that it allows me to meet amazing people whom I looked up to and followed. That’s what makes searching for jobs on Onlinejobs.ph interesting.

So, how to search for jobs on this platform?

1. Type in the keyword related to the job you’re looking for.

2. Make sure you review each offer as carefully as possible.

  • Make sure it’s aligned to your intent (Do you want to work temporarily like 1 to 6 months or permanently?)
  • Make sure you don’t feel underpaid (How to review price offers? How much is too little or too much? How much should you ask?)
  • Make sure the demands aren’t too much. (Is the work schedule too hectic for you?)

3. If you aren’t sure about the job post, have it bookmarked and review it next time. You know, deciding where to work and to whom takes a lot of thinking and courage.

4. Apply to the job post.

  • Review the employer’s application instructions.
  • Employers will NOT waste time on reviewing your application if you don’t follow the instructions.
  • Write an impressive application letter.

5. Wait for the employer’s response to your application.

6. If they call you back, be prepared to undergo another series of application processes. Others want to do extra measures just to make sure they choose the right person to add to their team. You’ll go through:

  • Interviews (via Facebook Messenger or Skype)
  • Submission of more entries for further review (They will ask you to write a sample post for their website.)
  • Another waiting time (The employers are in agony as to whom they want to work with.)
  • More interviews and acceptance
  • Contract signing and agreement with the pay (for full-time and part-time employment)

5 traits every employer looks for a strong candidate

If you have the following traits, certainly, you’ll leave a lasting impression on your employers. In other words, you become irresistible in their eyes.

When they sense that you value their services and are willing to put more effort into helping them build their businesses, there’s a higher chance for you to get hired.

With that said, here are the 5 traits every employer looks for a strong candidate.

1. Confidence

Your potential employers will smell it from your profile alone. The first time they land on your profile and see the information you’ve given, they’re thinking if you’re fit or not for their team.

If they could sense the lack of confidence on your part, searching for jobs on Onlinejobs.ph might be difficult. Therefore, you have to take time in evaluating your skills as objectively as possible. Set aside your inner critic at this point.

You may cringe or you feel like you’re bragging too much about your skills but that’s how a job search works, right? You’ve got to be the best among hundreds of applicants. So, be confident, my friend!

2. Winning mindset

I mentioned earlier why you shouldn’t see your recruiter only as a recruiter. Especially if you’re directly hired by a business owner, for instance. Rather, see them as the key persons for growth and new learning experience.

The moment you see your job from a different perspective, your working style changes. You’re not after the monthly salary, though you do, you’re more interested in delivering excellent work and play a big role in building a successful business.

This is how a millionaire mind works, my friend. If you want to develop your winning mindset, I suggest you read this post and find out how it helps you in honing your high-income skill.

3. Work to learn and find professional growth.

Make sure you work with your employers as if they’re your team. Don’t see them merely as a boss. Rather, see them as a key person for growth and learning.

Don’t work for the sake of making money. Certainly, it does work but your mindset affects your performance.

4. Politeness & humility

Politely respond to messages if you receive any in your inbox.

Don’t leave them hanging just because you’re not in the mood to reply. Do you do the same thing with your boss?

Don’t tell me you’ll slack off just because you’re working at home.

5. Awareness of one’s valuable asset

Present yourself as someone who can contribute to their success. Never see yourself only as a job seeker. Make them need you. Make them remember you.

As I mentioned earlier, become someone so good at work that they find it hard to let you go.

How did I earn my first $5,000 writing online?

What I did isn’t as unique as you’ve probably imagined. For sure, I experimented a lot and tried different ways to present myself the best way possible. Yet, what worked are the strategies I mentioned in this post.

I poured my blood, sweat, and tears on creating a stellar profile and presented myself as a strong candidate for any writing job. Though my inner critic crippled me, I ignored it and put myself out there with heads up.

As a result, I still receive offers from different companies to write for them, though I’ve not touched my profile for years.

That’s how powerful your Onlinejobs.ph profile is. Most job seekers may neglect it and take its capability for granted, then, exclude me.

Without the stellar profile, I couldn’t even imagine how possible it is to earn that money. I wouldn’t have continued my journey as an online writer. Well, at the time, I still have the option to go back to my boring teaching job.

But how about you?

You have nowhere to return right now.

So, what should you do next?
